Hi all
Your task is to write two paragraphs detailing current restrictions in your life. Compare these restrictions to those applied in Diana’s and Hector’s lives. Make up your mind and state whether you are more or less free than Diana and or Hector.
Good luck
Looking forward to your responses

In Australia, us as teenagers, have many restrictions. This is including children and young adults under the age of 18. Some of the laws include; no drinking alcohol unless over 18, driving with an adult in the passenger seat when having L plates, no smoking unless over 16, no having sex until over 16, no marajuana (unless doctors apply it), night curfews, noise ordinances, wagging etc. If humans under 18 cross these boundaries, there are severe consequences, such as; jail, juvenile detention, community service, detention centre, prison or work camp, an informal caution or verbal warning.
In Hectors clan they are; forbidden to leave the cave, talk/contact outsiders in fear of the ‘illness’, attend school etc. There are far less rules than what we have in Australia.
Beth, Diana and the father are only forbbidden to not contact/ speak to outsiders. Although this may seem more fun and better, this is only because there are no more people left therefore there is no need for many rules/ laws.
Hector and Diana are far more free than Australia. And this can be clearly shown/ proven.
Great justification Bree, very clear examples.
Good work and great to see you online
Warm regards
The restrictions in our life are you have to go to school until you are a certain age or if you drop out, your not allowed to drink and drive until a certain age and you are not allowed to do what ever you want because of our harsh laws.
Diana and Hector have more more rules, as they can not go to far away from the hide, not allowed to go swimmining in the lake. We are better off even if we might have more rules because they can not go to school or get a job.
The life of an Australian teenager is riddled with rules of conformity. With parents watching over your shoulder at every move you make, it is hard to have even the smallest taste of freedom. In my own experiences, parents are the worst when it comes to controlling you. The horrors I have been faced with! My parents reading my text messages and calling me every half hour while I am out! The laws set by the government of Australia are also very harsh. Teenagers cannot drive until the age of 16, where they must have a licensed driver present. Teens are not free to make their own decisions when it comes to sex and alcohol. The movements of any person in Australia are constantly watched through CCTV and the likes.
Dianna and Hector have no similar rules whatsoever. They are frozen in the 60′s. In Dianna’s case, her parents treat her like an equal. In Hector’s case, he doesn’t have to worry – he doesn’t even know his parents! Dianna and Hector are restricted in the places they go. They are both under the illusion that an ‘illness’ will converge on them if they even step outside of their individual sanctuaries. Dianna and Hector do not have rules; they have precautions. Their movements are only restricted by the impossibilities of their devastated world.
Even though I have some pretty harsh parents and laws in my life, I feel I am more privileged. I would much rather escape my parents to be with my friends, than to have no friends to escape to.
The restrictions of our daily lives consist of many rules. At this age we are not allowed to do certain things that have age restriction or things that are considered ”illegal”. Going clubbing, smoking, taking drugs, downloading pirated films (in America) and such is causing a crime. Doing such things can make us end up in jail or rehab in some cases and many more.
Diana and Hector have less rules compared to us citizens living in Australia. In Hectors world him and his community are not allowed to enter the real world or meet/talk/see any outsiders. In Dianas case, her and her family are not allowed to swim in the lake due to rumours spreading that there are poison chemicals in it. In my opinion Australia is more free because we can actually do other things that Diana, Beth, Evan and Hector can’t do.
The current restrictions in our lives are very consistent with many rules that are concerned. This may vary the fact that parents can be very overruling for the age we are at. Though, the reasons can be certain numbers of varieties including the concepts of rules that are considered as “illegal”.
i.e smoking, drug uses, driving, clubbing etc. are all illegal if they are done at 16+.
However, contradicting these rules can lead to rehab, jail or maybe even a more worse punishment.
The characters in the novel, The Lake At The End Of The World, are given laws, although there aren’t as many as the Australia’s laws. It still consist of some. This may be mentioned in the novel as in Hector’s settlement. For example, the settlement must avoid any contact with outsiders. Another given law for inside the novel was set out for Diana, Evan, Beth and Hector was that they do not have any physical contact towards the lake due to the poisonous chemicals spread within. For my opinion, it leads more towards Australia because, although, there is lesser laws/restrictions for both sides in the novel, Australia seems to be more open and free, as to things we allow ourselves to do as to the characters in the novel are unable to.
Due to age, there can be many more restrictions that will matter. These restrictions can example for teenagers such as Clubbing, smoking, drving. etc Disobeying these laws at a certain age, can lead towards rehab or maybe even jail. Though, if the certain age is right, for example, being able to drive at the age of sixteen, it won’t matter as much. Throughout, rules in teenage lifes it can sometimes could be overwelming because of parents controlling you.
Sorry Mrs Fielke, I still have another paragraph to go!I will send it to you soon
Woops sorry.
